About Robin Oatts
I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio where I still live and own a design and photography company called Genre.
I am one of those obnoxious people who always needs a project. About every decade I obsess over something new. In my teens it was music, and in my 20s it was all about buying and renovating my home. Now that the house is mostly done and the thought of going out after 9 p.m. and getting stuck behind that one 7-foot-tall guy makes me weep in my pillow, my life has become about all things food.
Owning a house meant having my first garden. Having my first garden forced me to find new ways to cook all of that produce. Becoming pretty decent at cooking made me want to learn more from actual chefs around the country.
My girlfriend, Jodi, is also a big part of this, which you'll probably read a lot about. I might even steal some of her photos because she's better than me. She makes me eat way more vegetables than I ever did before I met her and typically hears about cool things months before I do. All of these stories are our adventures together.
So Leave the Sandwich is my new project. I've hesitated starting a blog for quite some time because I am not a writer. If you know me, you know that I barely use punctuation and/or capitalization. Please don't email me telling me that I missed a comma, or used the word "whom" improperly. I know and love a few of you who will try hard not to do this. Let's just call it even for you uploading that super low-resolution and pixelated photo to your Instagram the other day.
Why Leave the Sandwich?
30 Rock is my all time favorite show. I've always identified with Liz Lemon and Leave the Sandwich came from one of my favorite episodes:
